It’s happening. We’ve made our decision and have now arrived at the point of no return. Only our most essential personal belongings are left in our flat, and a few final touch-ups remain before we can hand over the keys to our landlord and reduce British net migration by two.
After five years of living in the UK, we are heading home (or at least home for me) to Norway, the land of mountains, fresh air and expensive alcohol. In all honesty, other than looking forward to being closer to family and friends back home, I have no idea of what to expect from this decision except for a reversed cultural shock.
Goodbye Nation of Shopkeepers – it’s been great! You’ve given me loads of challenges, taught me a lot, change my perspective on life completely, and now I’m bringing it with me back home in the form of memories and a world view I don’t think I would ever acquire without living outside of Norway for an extended period of time. We promise to visit. Often.
